Who knows, maybe in a couple years or so when the game’s more fleshed out and has the key features of the original, it could be worthy of the excitement that should’ve been there at launch. But when you’re keeping said game a secret for many years, slowly releasing more and more sneak peeks to build up hype, to the point where fans are begging for an official announcement, you need to live up to the expectation. The game was officially out, and we had… three rooms, two sets of quests and almost nothing else to do besides chat, wander around, and design clothes with the limited amount of materials we had right from the get-go.ĭon’t get me wrong, I totally understand that game development takes time, especially when you’re making a completely new one from scratch. The next day, when people were still mourning over the loss of Club Penguin classic, they immediately switched to CPI-mode and acted like the original never existed for months. The game went up on the last day before the original was going down, and players were more focused on spending their last day on the original game than trying out the new app. Club Penguin Island, the official successor to Club Penguin, is not without its problems as well. Now let’s have a different perspective on the issue. Is there really a need to relive them over and over again? It had its ups and downs, but the game itself and the memories associated with it are engraved in the minds of millions of teenagers and young adults who grew up playing the game.
#CLUB PENGUIN ISLAND VS CLUB PENGUIN CODE#
As the game got older, the audience (and the team) kept shrinking, their target audience became more engrossed by mobile devices rather than computers, and the code itself was outdated, running on Adobe Flash Player, which is being discontinued in 2020 anyway.Ĭlub Penguin was an incredible experience. Club Penguin closed down for several reasons, mostly revolving around the fact that the game was just outdated. Club Penguin Rewritten can only be fun for so long when their parties are just recycled year after year. It might’ve been fun at first, especially during those first few weeks after Club Penguin had shut down, but Club Penguin Rewritten just doesn’t have the lasting appeal that Club Penguin did for so long. But they usually either added in a bunch of new content to keep things fresh or balanced things out with new, unique parties in addition to the old ones. Sure, Club Penguin brought back a lot of their old parties every year, lots of which were tradition. So, what’s left after they’ve done all that? Doing it all again every single year? This year alone they’ve used up most of Club Penguin’s most beloved parties, such as the Music Jam, Festival of Flight, the Fair, etc. Things will get stale a LOT faster than it did for Club Penguin. They were able to successfully blend a mix of old and new content for years before they finally began winding down and relying on recycled content and monthly updates to coast by for another year.Ĭlub Penguin Rewritten is solely running on their past parties, rooms, catalogs, etc. Since they’re relying on Club Penguin’s own original work to get by in the game, they can’t really create their own, at least not like the Club Penguin Team could. There are very few original items or parties, and this year alone they’ve used up a ton of Club Penguin’s most beloved parties and events. I think this whole situation has just brought to attention the cold, harsh realities both games currently face.Ĭlub Penguin Rewritten is, let’s face it, a copy-paste of 2010-era Club Penguin. Why should Disney take down the game when they don’t even care about the original anymore? By closing Club Penguin down, they basically “threw away” all of their old files for the game. As the game just hit 1 million users a few days ago, that’s clearly a large audience. On the other hand, CPR is a project run by teenagers for people who played the original game and still have nostalgia for it. They also own the rights to the Club Penguin franchise. They have a new game that they’re trying to take money off of, and Rewritten is taking a lot of attention and potential players (as well as their old files) away from them. I can understand Disney’s decision from a business point of view.

Some of the people in the divided CPI/CPR community have been fighting over which side should be supported. So let’s just go with that for this post. It’s completely possible that people are blowing this way out of proportion and only the domain is being claimed, but practically everyone is assuming the worst and saying it’ll also be shut down. If you haven’t heard already, Disney is allegedly trying to claim Club Penguin Rewritten’s domain for itself.
